Program Outcomes
As a result of their experience in this program, participants will be able to increase balance and mobility, and strengthen muscles to help promote spinal health, and reduce levels of tension, tightness, and stress.
Studio Description
Yoga Classes Offered at Human Senior Center Given by Bobbie Bloxham
1. Gentle Yoga for the Seniors: This class will aim to increase muscle strength, flexibility, mobility and balance. This class will also aim to increase health and sense of well being. The class will be offered for an hour, two times per week. The class will consist of a 10-15 minutes warm up, a 30 minute workout, followed by a cool down and a ten minute conscious meditation. The warm up will include breathing exercises and light upper body movements. The work out will include light upper and lower body movements through the practice of different yoga postures and stretches that target major muscle groups and promote spinal health. The cool down will be a relaxing meditation that will include a reading from a book with positive messages. The participants will practice from a chair and or mat using props such as blankets, straps, and blocks. The level of the class will be beginner and will be adjusted to meet the needs of the participants.
2. Light Yoga for Mental Health: This class will aim to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sense of well being, and increase mental health. The class will also aim to increase muscle strength, flexibility, mobility, and balance. This class will be an entry level, light yoga class open to the public. Teens, adults, men, and women are all encouraged to participate. The class will be offered for an hour and one half, two times per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30pm. The class will end at 7:00pm. The class will consist of a 15 minute warm up, an hour workout, and a 15 minute deep relaxation. The warm up will include breathing exercises and light yoga postures and stretches. The workout will consist of beginner yoga postures and stretches that target major muscle groups, increase balance, and promote spinal health. The deep relaxation will include a reading from a book with positive messages that promotes mental health and well being. The participants will practice from a yoga mat using props such as chairs, blankets, straps, and blocks. The levels of this class will be beginner and will be adjusted to meet the needs of the participants.
3. Pilates Core Strengthening: This class will aim to strengthen the major muscle groups; abdominals, thighs, lower back, and gluts. This class will also aim to increase endurance, muscle strength, and flexibility. This class will include two levels; entry level, and intermediate. This class will be open to the public encouraging teens, adults, men, and women to participate. The class will be offered for an hour and one half, two times per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00pm. The class will end at 5:15pm. The class will consist of a 15 minute warm up, and 45 minute workout, and a 15 minute deep relaxation. The warm up will include breathing exercises, and light pilates stretches. The workout will move through pilates stretches and offer modifications to meet beginner and intermediate levels. The deep relaxation will include a reading from a book with positive messages. The participants will practice from a mat using blankets and straps. The levels of the class will be beginner and beginner and will be adjusted to meet the needs of the participants.
